August 22 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Isabelle Olivier and Raphael Olivier are two award-winning performers and composers. Together they create a unique duet sound, blending their respective musical worlds as French natives. Hailing from Paris, they share their artistic palette on guitar and harp, and develop a journey of soundscapes at the crossroads of jazz, folk, and world music. This concert will feature original music inspired by the open minds and open hearts of the people, places, and moments they’ve experienced as mother and son. Ranging from jazz standards to modern improvisations and traditional French songs, they invite you into their exploration of curiosity, togetherness, and musical innovation.
Chicago based dancer Kahly ‘Kota’ Wrather will join us for a unique performance for the second part of the evening.
Isabelle Olivier has collaborated with such artistic luminaries as Oscar filmmaker winner Agnès Varda, Grammy awarded drummer Peter Erskine, and developed an instantly recognizable style using her rare and fascinating instrument: the harp. She recorded 12 albums with her compositions, performed in 25 countries. Exploring both acoustic and electronic music, she composes jazz that is open to all influences.
Singer/songwriter, guitarist and composer Raphael Olivier paints a refined musical landscape blending his inspirations as a Franco-American artist based in Chicago. He’s written scores for over 100 studios and TV networks, has collaborated with artists such as Jean Michel Jarre and Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), and has performed in sold out venues all through Europe with such acts as Etienne Daho, Yael Naim, Calypso Valois, and the National Jazz Orchestra.
