Power in Sound: The Music of Galina Ustvolskaya @ PianoForte Studios

PianoForte presents the last concert of a 3-day festival ‘‘Power in Sound: The Music of Galina Ustvolskaya,” Oct 5-7, 2017. Performing four of her six piano sonatas in addition to the Violin and Piano Sonata are the acclaimed Andrew Rosenblum, Kuang-Hao Huang, Christopher Wendell Jones, Tara Lynn Ramsey, and Chris Narloch, with a concert talk by Ustvolskaya scholar, Maria Cizmic. Named the ‘woman with the hammer’ (Elmer Schonberger), Ustvolskaya’s sonatas offer some of her most powerful and profound works, and display her use of heavy chromatic blocks of sound, and linear melodies.
