Collaborating as violinist and pianist and concertmaster and conductor, Alessandro Cervo and Nyela Basney have performed together for 10 years, both in Italy and in the United States.
Most recently performing with the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, Mr. Cervo has served as concertmaster with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, the Orchestra del Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, the Haydn Symphony of Bolzano and Trento and, currently, of the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana. He appears regularly as a soloist with the Filarmonici di Roma (the resident chamber orchestra of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory) in celebrated venues including the Sala Tchaikovsky in Moscow and the Opera Theatre of Rome.
Alessandro has performed across Europe, China, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, Russia, the United States, Cuba, Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela and Jordan, and has made house recordings for the Universal, Ricordi, Dinamic and Amadeus labels. He has given Master Classes for Brasilia, Orvieto Musica, Inc. and at Roosevelt University and, with the Quintetto Bottesini, performed at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. in 2007 in the presence of Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Republic of Italy.
Nyela Basney received critical acclaim for her debut with Light Opera works: “. . . the glorious sound coming from the large orchestra under the baton of Nyela Basney combine[d] to give [this production] fiery intensity . . .” (Chicago Sun-Times)
As Associate Conductor of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra Miss Basney conducted over 60 performances each season, including Masterworks, Pops and educational concerts. She has also led concerts with the Springfield (MA) Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, Toledo Symphony, Virginia Symphony and the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale. She was Associate Conductor with the El Paso Opera and is currently Artistic Director of Opera at North Park University in Chicago.
Miss Basney is the Founder and Director of Orvieto Musica, Inc., an international chamber music festival in Italy which just celebrated its 25th Anniversary. She has recently conducted the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra in Sarajevo, Zeniça, and Brçko and appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Chamber Opera Chicago. Together with Alessandro, she has led performances with Operafestival di Roma, most recently of Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro and Suor Angelica.
Nyela Basney earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Eastman School of Music with Highest Distinction in applied piano, served as a staff pianist at the Juilliard School and frequently appears as a collaborative pianist in the Chicago area.
Together, Mr. Cervo and Miss Basney have presented recitals and master classes in Colorado, Georgia and Illinois. Their current recital program includes the Beethoven Spring Sonata, Beethoven Romance in F Major, the Franck Sonata and Debussy’s La Plus Que Lente.
