GROTRIAN

The first Grotrian pianos were built in 1835 by Friedrich Grotrian in partnership with Heinrich and Theodore Steinweg. When Heinrich emigrated to America in 1850, the company split into Steinway and Sons and Grotrian (Grotrian-Steinweg in Europe). Grotrian pianos have a history of quality and distinction in Europe and have been praised by many renowned musicians, including Clara Schumann who would play none but Grotrian grands.

Today, Grotrian prides itself on its tradition of quality and precision, now employed in a modernized factory that produces 500 uprights and 100 grands each year. Each piece of wood in a Grotrian soundboard is chosen specially so that it contributes harmoniously to the sound of the piano. This innovation, known as the homogeneous soundboard, is patented by Grotrian along with the famous model upright 120 and star-shaped back construction. Grotrian pianos are known for their clear but subtle attack and their elegant, mellow tone.
